Although it only opened in 2018, it’s actually hard for Birmingham’s foodies to remember what life was like before Opheem opened it’s doors. This was Aktar Islam’s first project outside of the Lasan group, and by all accounts, something quite remarkable. Not only did the restaurant earn a Michelin Star in it’s first year, but became Birmingham’s first Indian restaurant to receive the accolade.
“Omar has now worked with me on three of my restaurants, and his work is great. We were having a bit of trouble positioning Opheem in the beginning, because we knew that we were working on something completely new to the city. This excited Omar, and he came round to the office after hours, with beers, and said ‘what’s the story with this restaurant then?’ After much discussion, he articulated our proposition perfectly, and I believe this process has been a critical factor in our success.”
